What colour is your garbage truck
The Ulladulla region is set for some new head turning garbage trucks as part of the new Shoalhaven Domestic Collection Service Contract, scheduled to commence on July 1st 2011.
Due to roll out with a new education campaign, our garbage trucks have become mobile message boards, challenging residents to reduce their waste and increase recycling. The trucks have even been colour coded to match the red and yellow lids.
Shoalhaven City Council is calling residents to action with the “Waste line Challenge”. Encouraging local households to reduce the size of their red lid bins and therefore reducing landfill.
The “Waste line challenge” was developed after recent audits of the red lid waste bin showed they contained 10% recycling, 40% green waste & 20% food waste, all of which could have been recycled or composted.
Council will also continue the “home composting program” to assist residents manage composting and worm farming for both financial and environmental benefit.
A new Rural Collection Service will also commence as part of the new contract. The truck serving rural areas will be able to collect waste from both the recycling and waste bin as it is divided into two sections. This saves on transport collection costs and is a plus for the environment.
Residents will see no change in their service- same collection day, same bins.
