Some Chinese Families from Milton and other localities

George AH-POO b. 1843, Canton China, m. 1876, in Terara Nowra NSW (1876/4140 Shoalhaven) Emma Ann LOWE, b. 1857, Sydney NSW (Birth 1857/1937), daughter of John LOWE and Rebecca Ann DAWKINS d. 1931, Ashfield Sydney NSW (1931/11077). George died 4 Feb 1923, Forest Lodge Sydney NSW (1923/5879 Glebe). Buried: Rookwood Cemetery Sydney NSW. Burial Unmarked Grave.

George was born as Guoc Ah Poo. Arrived in Australia on the Amazon in 1862. He first tried his luck at the Goldfields at Hill End then Braidwood and the Shoalhaven. When he married in 1876 he listed his occupation as a gardener at Numbaa. Naturalized at Milton NSW in 1883 with papers prepared by Thomas Hobbs, took the oath of allegiance on 12 December 1883. Family moved to Parramatta c1890 to work as a market gardener.

Samuel GOW also known as: Joseph Samuel GOW b. 1862, occupation Market Gardener, m. 19 Sep 1903, in Braidwood CE Rites NSW as Joseph Sam GOW, Ellen KING, Samuel died 1935, Ulladulla NSW (Death 1935/7767 Milton) Buried: 1935, Sandridge Cemetery CE Mollymook (Burial CE/B?/? unmarked). 

Samuel operated a Market Garden – Cnr North & Camden St Ulladulla. The family worked the property producing fruit and vegetables until the bushfire destroyed the house, stables and garden beyond redemption.
