Shoalhaven International Women’s Day

If you would like to say “thank you” to a woman you know who has inspired you or who has worked hard and received little recognition for her work, the way to do it might be to nominate her for an International Women’s Day Award.

It is now twelve years since the start of this tradition, where women from all walks of life receive awards at a ceremony which takes at Meroogal historic home in Nowra.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a time for celebration and honoring of women’s lives past and present, and the Shoalhaven is no exception. In appreciation of women’s work and creativity in all areas of their lives and the community the IWD Collective and Meroogal have joined forces once again to make this a really special day.

Organiser of IWD events for many years, Sandra Lee said “Hundreds of women have received awards over the years, and it is a great opportunity for us to honor our elders and the many women who work tirelessly for different causes and their families. The ceremony is always a meaningful occasion, both special for the women receiving awards who are publicity acknowledged and appreciated, possibly for the first time in their lives.

Any one who has been present at these ceremonies can’t fail to have been touched and inspired to hear the stories of the women receiving their awards.”

If you would like to nominate a special woman you can obtain an entry form from Meroogal ph: 44218 150. You can also email Sandra on sandral@hht.net.au  and she will send you the nomination form electronically.

Nominations must be received by Tuesday 16 February at Meroogal.

The Awards will be presented in the afternoon of Sunday 7th March in the gardens of Meroogal which has been home to four generations of women from the same family for over 100 years. Meroogal is open to the public extra days in January from 10-5pm Friday-Sunday, and has a rich history of women and their stories.
