Petition launches for second high school in Milton Ulladulla region

The Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock and local community members launched a petition in eraly October calling on the NSW Government to purchase the former Shoalhaven Anglican School site as a second high school for the Southern Shoalhaven.

Mrs Hancock said the area was in desperate need of another high school following the Anglican Schools Corporation’s announcement that it would close the high school in Milton and sell the site.

“The decision to close the school was made as it was no longer able to meet the educational outcomes and pastoral care levels expected by parents and by the Anglican Schools Corporation,” Mrs Hancock said.

“The Southern Shoalhaven is experiencing a period of growth with more and more families moving to the region, leading to an increase in high school enrolments.

“Ulladulla High School, now the only remaining high school in the area, is already at capacity and an influx of further students would put a strain on the school’s resources and on the site physically.

“There would just not be enough classrooms for all the students and nobody wants to see a return to the days when demountables littered the school grounds.

“That is why I am calling on the NSW Government to purchase the Croobyar Road site and provide a second public high school for local families.

“It is the perfect opportunity to establish a second high school and with much of the needed infrastructure already available on the site.

“It is clear that the Mollymook, Milton and Ulladulla communities need another high school and now we need their help to show the NSW Government that those communities support the purchase of the site.

“The petition will be displayed by local businesses in Milton and Ulladulla and at my office on Plunkett Street in Nowra. Community members will also be doing the rounds gathering signatures and we are encouraging people and businesses to offer sign up locations.

“If we can gather 500 or more signatures the Minister is required to lodge an official response. If we gather 10,000 signatures the issue will be debated on the floor of Parliament. I strongly encourage everyone to take the time and sign the petition,” Mrs Hancock said.
