Types of Maps

Climate maps
Economic or resource maps - natural resources or economic activities, many times combined with road maps
Parish Maps - Original landowners and development of an area.
Physical maps - show areas as the mountains, rivers and lakes.
Political maps - state and national boundaries, capital cities etc
Road maps - highways, roads, streets etc
Topographic maps - elevation of an area above sea level. Lines that are close together relflect a steep terrain, whilst lines that are far apart indicate flat terrain

Department of Lands (NSW) collects and maintains a comprehensive and authoritative range of land data in the form of digital and hardcopy mapping and spatial information products and services. Their site includes topographic, parish, historic, touring, national park and waterways maps. Parish maps are available online.
