Schools in the Gilmore electorate have heard first hand of the benefits set to flow from one of the Australian Government's biggest education initiatives

Member for Gilmore, Joanna Gash recently hosted Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education, Pat Farmer, as he toured the region to spread the word about the Investing in Our Schools Program and met with parents and P&C representatives.

"This is a landmark program," Mrs Gash said. "It is making available grants totalling up to $150,000 over four years to individual school communities."

The Investing in Our Schools Program, which is coordinated by Minister Farmer, will provide grants for capital works and the first round deadline for grants of $50,000 or less is May 31.

Minister Farmer's visit also provided him the chance to speak with representatives from the Ulladulla High School P & C

"We have schools in Gilmore, like Ulladulla High School, which have been neglected by the Carr State Government for too long," Mrs Gash said.

"The Minister will take the concerns raised by parents back to Brendan Nelson, who will continue to pressure the State Labor Government to lift its education capital works spending.

"The Australian Government provided the Carr State Government with an extra $83 million to build and maintain schools this year alone."
