COACHING ACCREDITATIONS

Netball NSW has changed its pathways for all coaching levels, what was the OTC (Orientation to Coaching) is now called the Foundation course. This course is designed to enhance the knowledge of coaches who are coaching at Club Level.

This course is an accredited course under the Netball Australia Coaching Scheme and the Australian Sports Commission, it assists coaches to learn the basic skills of coaching and is specifically aimed at coaches training children.

This course can be done online through the Australian Government Sports Commission
www.ausport.gov.au and it is currently free due to a subsidy given by the Sports Commission.

The course is 6 hours long and has 5 modules with an assessment on each module. You do have to register, please be careful when you are registering that you have 6 months from the date of registering to complete the course. There is a save button as you are completing modules that if you have only done part thereof you can go back when available and continue.

Those who have completed their Level One Coaching course and have not submitted their Log Book to Netball Australia for renewal and is outside the 4 year period your Level One is now null and void as of 31st December 2007.

Coaches who have their Level One and are still in their 4 year period make sure you submit your Log Book at Coaching or Umpiring workshops you only need a maximum of 24 points too in that 4 year period to keep your Accreditation current.

The Level One Coaching course has now been split into two parts now and is called the Development Coaching course and this course will come with Practical and Theory but will also have assessments the participants need to complete.

Course costs now are Foundation $90.00 and all other Levels $120 each. There is now 6 Levels in Coaching Accreditations instead of the old system which was 4, OTC, Level One, Level Two and Level Three, I personally like the new system it gives more avenues and opportunity for coaches who want to progress to do so slowly.

And lastly I take a very good piece of advice from an Australian Coach (Jill McIntosh) and pass it on to all our coaches - Teach a Skill not the Drill.
