Sailed for Egypt September 1914. Leslie Charles Gumley served with the 2nd Light Horse, transfer to the Gun section at Gallipoli. Wounded 6 April 1915 going into hospital at Malta.
RTA May 1916. He re-enlisted in January 1918 (3544) serving with the Australian Flying Corp as an air mechanic. RTA 22 September 1919
