William Rutter Reunion
April 14 - 15 2007 - Milton Ulladulla
William RUTTER was born 1766, Lymington Hampshire England, the son of John RUTTER and Joan TRICKEY. William died 17 Jun 1812, Parramatta NSW, Buried: St Johns Parramatta NSW.
He arrived in Australia 4 April 1807 on the Brothers

William Rutter emmigrated to NSW to superintend the Saltworks owned by Mr John Blaxland. His 3rd marriage to
Charlotte Flowers nee Robinson who had come to Australia to be Governess to Mr Blaxland Family.

William Rutter made a very valuable contribution to the Colony in his role as Salt Maker for John Blaxland. Salt was essential for curing meat and hides and protecting ships timbers from dry rot. Imported salt was costly and not always available.

In 1844 at Darling Forest (now part of Milton), there was a Mr Rutter who was the children's tutor, he may a relative of the Lady of the house (Caroline Blake Kendall nee Rutter) but research across the vast branches of the Rutter Family has yet to prove exactly who this may have been.
