INTRODUCTION
Over 10 years ago I discovered that two of husbands ancestors had arrived in Australia on the Royal Admiral in 1792 - Thomas Dargin (Seaman) and Mary Loveridge (convict). The Royal Admiral made her maiden Australian Voyage in 1792 with Captain Essex Henry Bond in charge. Over the years I collated many references to the Royal Admiral and her passengers. Ladies of the Royal Admiral 1792 published in 1996 was the result of my research. It contains a bibliography on all the women and children. Alongs with details taken from the Log of the voyage including births and deaths on the voyage, a list of crew and details of the NSW Corps who were also on board.
The list of Ladies gives us Convicts, free women, solider's wives and convict wives. It also includes the female children, along with the convicts listed on the Royal Admiral Indent but actually arrived on the Bellona in 1793. Also some women listed on bound indent were already in Australia, arriving on the Kitty. Some women names did not appear on the indent but their names appear in Log Entries. Several of the women convicts married men from the Royal Admiral.
Back in 1792 women were not held in high regard and convict even less status. However they were pioneers who made the colony survive and expand through their own efforts and doings and those of their children.
Royal Admiral 1792
Includes additional and new information on the women (from Ladies of the Royal Admiral 1792 - out of print). Along with all others of the Royal Admiral, included are all the male convicts, members of the NSW Corps and the ships crew. Research includes all birth, death, marriages of the first generation of families. Convict details include crime and sentence. The pdf includes index to all primary records and other references, shipping and convicts records. I write this on board the ship, but it looks a pleasant place but I will make myself as happy as I can .. Mary Haycock, Royal Admiral, Sydney, 8 Oct 1792.
