Cathy Dunn GRAVES George 1788 HMS Sirius
1788 Boatswain's Mate Royal Navy, Buried at
Dawes Point Sydney. The headstone erected to his
memory was discovered in 1871. It was being used as
a paving stone in Bethel Lane in the Rocks area of
Sydney. It is the oldest extant headstone in
Australia, currently in the custody of the Sydney
Harbour Foreshore Authority. Photo
