On 27 Sep 1808 Robert Inch Master and owner of the sloop Charlotte and his only hand George Conway were drowned. According to those in the sloop "Hope" which was a mile behind the Charlotte, the latter vessel was caught in a sudden squall, and went over through the "the jibing" of her mainsail.
