His skills as a master carpenter were required to help with the establishment of the new colony. William arr. Royal Admiral 1792 with his wife Mary who died Dec 1792 at Parramatta, and child Mary b. 1790 England who m. Lawrence Brady 31 Aug 1803 St Johns Parramatta. Its is not known if William took his daughter Mary to Norfolk Island as William Peat sailed for Norfolk Island "Philadelphia" on 7 Dec 1792 for his role as master carpenter, along with John Jamieson convict Superintendent also of the Royal Admiral 1792

Collins: At the settlement at the Hawkesbury, a woman who had been drinking was found dead in her husband's arms. Webb the settler, who was wounded in March last, died; and one settler (Rowe) and his child were killed in this month.

Collins: Among the casualties of the month must be noticed the death of a man unfortunately drowned in attempting to save the life of a woman who was overset with himself in a passage-boat, coming from Parramatta. He had just got her into safety when she pulled him under water, and he perished. It is extremely hazardous, and requires very great caution in those who meddle with persons that are drowning.

Collins: During this month one man and a woman, attempting to cross one of the creeks at the Hawkesbury by a tree which had been thrown over, fell in, and were drowned; and one man had died there of the bite of a snake.

Collins: There died, during the year 1795, one assistant to the surgeons; one sergeant of the New South Wales corps; two settlers; thirteen male convicts; seven female convicts and one child; and one male convict was executed. Making a total of twenty-six persons who lost their lives during the year.
