Eureka Euchre is fast, friendly and challenging and gives every player a chance to enjoy at least 2 hours of cards, playing with 6 different partners and a chance to win great prizes.

Euchre is an age old game, familiar to generations of people. We created the name Eureka Euchre as the Eureka Flag represents a fair go for all and our tournaments give every player a fair and even chance to participate, enjoy and win.

You don't have to be an expert in Euchre, we will be happy to show people the rules even if they haven't played before or not for years. The basics of Euchre are quite simple but it is a challenging and tactical game that can be enjoyed by all players of all ages

RULES OF PLAY
PLEASE NOTE EUREKA EUCHRE IS PLAYED WITH THE LOWEST CARD BEING A NINE (9)
  • Dealer is first Black Jack. Dealer shuffles and passes to the right for cutting on the cut card
  • If Face card is rejected and other players do not call the dealer must call (i.e. the hand is never simply folded)
  • Once the trumps have been decided the dealer will ensure that the suit is announced
  • A player may order any player up including their partner and all players remain in the hand unless a player decides to go alone
  • If there is a misdeal of cards, such as incorrect amount to a player OR a card is shown, then it is declared a misdeal and the player deals again
  • In the event that a player is deemed to have reneged, automatic two points are awarded to the opposition
  • At the end of the first game, the player enters their score on their scorecard and has it signed by the opponent to their right
  • Points are recorded for the entire game, even if one team exceeds 11 points. There will be score cards to 15 on the tables
  • Losers move to the next table. Winners remain at the table with the person in either seat A or B moving to their right. Losing players simply fill the empty seats at the next table
  • Rounds played in three games each of 15 minutes then a 15 minute break
  • After round 2 the finals will be played. In the event that more than one player is on the same points then a head to head game is played where the players cut for the dealer with the winner of that cut deciding who deals.
  • Again the dealer must call and the winner of that hand moves to the final. Should there be more than two players with equal points then the cards are cut and the highest card has a bye. (In the event of an uneven number of players)
  • Finalists will draw cards and red Aces and Kings Queens and Jacks are partners as are the black cards
  • One round of 2 deals each will be played then next final played
  • Partners will draw from Red or Black Cards and Aces and Kings will be partners
  • One final game of two deals each will be played
  • Top team are declared winners
  • Prize money will be distributed as advised at the start of the tournament

    THE EUREKA EGG

  • At the commencement of the tournament $10.00 will be placed in the Eureka Egg
  • When a player goes alone their partner is to raise their hand and call out "Eureka"
  • If the player gains maximum points, after calling Alone (i.e. all 5 tricks) they will be the holder of the Egg. Until the next time (if any) this happens
  • If a player is euchred after calling Alone they will pay a fine of $1.00, which will be placed into the egg
  • At the end of the first two qualifying rounds the "controller" of the egg will win whatever money is in the egg at that time

    EUREKA EUCHRE ETIQUETTE

  • Euchre should be enjoyable but also must have discipline
  • Please avoid "table talk". It is important that the game is played as quickly as possible.
  • All disputes will be decided by the Eureka Euchre Coordinator.
  • Please keep drink off the table. Eating is not permitted at the table
  • Swearing will not be tolerated and you may be asked to leave the tournament should it persist
