God speed, and a safe return

Many ex pupils of Termeil Public School served in WW1, including brothers William, Charles and Arthur Herne, they were the sons of William Herne and his Jean nee Bennie.

Charles served with his brother William in the 7th Light Horse Regiment in Egypt. Charles Herne was born 1891 at Lilyvale Termeil. He enlisted a few days after his brother William at Lismore, where he too was working as a farmer. Charles returned to Australian from war service in July 1916 and was medical discharged in September 1916.

Charles name appears also on many local honour rolls including Milton Ulladulla RSL Honour Roll, Milton Town Memorial, Milton Methodist Church and the Milton Methodist Flag. Charles after the war settled in Queensland.
