Many ex pupils of Termeil Public School served in WW1, including brothers William, Charles and Arthur Herne, they were the sons of William Herne and his Jean nee Bennie.

Arthur Herne was born September 1898, at the family farm of Lilyvale Termeil.  He first tried to enlist in April 1918 but was rejected as he was recovery from an operation, he did have his father person to enlist as he was under age. After two more attempts to enlist, Arthur was accepted in September 1918 and assigned to the G Company recruits at the Liverpool Camp. He was discharged in December 1918 due to the end of the war.

Arthur Herne’s name is listed Milton Ulladulla RSL Honour Roll, Milton Town Memorial and Milton Methodist Church. There are descendants of the Herne family living at Lake Tabourie and Milton today.
