Alfred Bartlett

His brother William Bartlett’s serial number is 2719, both enlisted at Kiama in October 1916.

Alfred Bartlett who was born in 1896 at Milton travel to Kiama with his brother William and their mates, he enlisted into the war in October 1916 and served with his brother Alfred was a senior Cadet for two years, he served with his brother William in the 37th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement.

After arriving in England in November 1916, Alfred was in France from April 1917. In October 1918 Alfred was shot gunshot wound in the right arm return home to Milton in July 1919. Alfred also followed in the footsteps of his father and became a butcher at Milton.

All three Bartlett brothers received the British War medal and Victory medal, and all served as Privates in WW1. Their names appear on four of our community WW1 memorials.
